Sixty percent of marketing budgets will move from traditional marketing to Internet marketing by 2014 (VanBoskirk, 2009). Traditional marketing channels are utilized less by consumers than they were in 2007, while time spent on the Internet has increased. Consumers spend 2% less time watching TV. They spend 1% less time reading newspapers and magazines, and listening to the radio. In contrast these same people spend 5% more time on the Internet.
In the March 2009 US Interactive Marketing Forecast Online Survey of the 204 marketers poled, 90% said they would increase marketing through social media. Over 80% said they would increase online video. Approximately 77% said they would increase their use of search engine optimization, and mobile marketing. Almost 70% said they had plans to increase email marketing.
Yes, marketing on the Internet can reach millions at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing channels. Follow this blog and in the days to come I will tell you, "…how to stretch a dollar tighter than Rush Limbaugh's thong" (Midler, 2009).
